Why We Use Grass-Fed Tallow
Tallow has been used for centuries in skincare and soapmaking. At Blended Pastures Farmstead, we choose grass-fed beef tallow because of its quality, performance, and alignment with our farmstead values.
What Is Tallow?
Tallow is a rendered fat traditionally sourced from cattle. When properly rendered and filtered, it becomes a clean, stable ingredient that blends smoothly into skincare and soap.
In its finished form, tallow is:
- Shelf stable
- Rich in naturally occurring fatty acids
- Compatible with the skin’s moisture barrier
Why Grass-Fed Matters
Grass-fed tallow is produced from cattle raised on pasture rather than grain-based feed systems. While we do not make medical claims, many people prefer grass-fed sourcing because it reflects a more traditional and intentional approach to ingredient selection.
For us, grass-fed tallow represents thoughtful sourcing, consistency in quality, and alignment with farm-based values.
Tallow in Skincare and Soap
Grass-fed tallow performs well across a wide range of products, including:
- Whipped tallow moisturizers
- Daily tallow lotions
- Protective tallow balms
- Handcrafted bar and dish soaps
Why We Keep It Simple
We believe skincare does not need to be complicated to be effective. By starting with a well-chosen base ingredient like grass-fed tallow, we can focus on quality rather than filler.
